CNN —A suspect has been indicted in relation to the deaths of two Australian brothers and an American, who died during a surfing trip in Mexico, according to Baja California’s Prosecutor’s Office. The suspect was indicted on a charge of forced disappearance in the case involving the three tourists, whose bodies were found last week dumped in a 50-foot well with gunshot wounds to the head. While Baja California has been plagued by drug cartel violence in recent years, it rarely occurs in tourist areas like Ensenada. Dozens of people held a protest last week in Ensenada calling on authorities to do more to tackle violence facing tourists and locals alike. While parts of Mexico are established tourist destinations, violent crime including kidnapping and human trafficking plague parts of the country, particularly in border areas.

CNN —The grieving parents of two Australian brothers killed on a surfing trip in Mexico alongside their American friend said their deaths had made the world a “darker place,” days after their sons’ bodies were identified. On Sunday, Mexican authorities confirmed their identities as the three missing friends with the help of relatives who flew out help investigators. Mexican authorities have vowed to investigate the murders, saying the surfers may have been attacked in an attempted vehicle robbery. Mexico’s homicide rate is among the highest in the world, and more than 100,000 people remain missing in the country. Studies show only around seven percent of murders in Mexico are ever solved.

“It was really beautiful native forest,” said JC Watson, the manager of the Koolau Mountains Watershed Partnership, which helps take care of the land. Hawaii’s native plants evolved without encountering regular fires and fire is not part of their natural life cycle. There are cultural losses when native forest burns. They'll devise a restoration plan that will include invasive species control and planting native species. “There has been a huge uptick in the last 10 years, largely in Waianae range, which is the western and drier portion of the island,” Gon said.

But it is in Volusia County — which includes the renowned Daytona Beach and New Smyrna Beach — on Florida's east coast that has been dubbed the "shark bite capital of the world." The sharks that hunt the waters of Volusia County and are mostly involved in biting incidents include Blacktip, Bull, and Requiem sharks.

The arrival of the first wave, smashing against the wooden boat, set off a desperate scramble for gear: knives, warm clothing, headlamps, water. The second wave sent the passengers diving overboard, as the boat tipped forward into the ocean. But a storm swept through, knocking the boat off course and ultimately scuttling the vessel. “When the first one came in, Jordy was like, ‘All right, guys, this could be serious,’” Mr. Foote said in a video posted to social media. Multiple Australian and Indonesian crews led the effort, with assistance from local fishermen, private vessels and even a private airplane chartered by family members and the Australian government.

Sea otters in California are stealing people's surfboards, according to multiple reports. At one point, the sea otter flips the board on its front and then starts tearing it up with its teeth. "Since then, in the past five days now, there's been three more incidents of it," Woodward told KGO. "The otters have joined the war," one person tweeted, while another tweeted: "Sea Otters joining the Orca uprising." "They're actually pretty aggressive animals," San José State University's Moss Landing Marine Laboratories Professor David Ebert told KGO.

For the past few summers, numerous surfers in Santa Cruz, Calif., have been victims of a crime at sea: boardjacking. The culprit is a female sea otter, who accosts the wave riders, seizing and even damaging their surfboards in the process. After a weekend in which the otter’s behavior seemed to grow more aggressive, wildlife officials in the area said on Monday they have decided to put a stop to these acts of otter larceny. Local officials call the animal Otter 841. The 5-year-old female is well known, for both her bold behavior and her ability to hang 10.

Tyler’s practice began after he started volunteering at Angola’s hospice program. In addition to gifting quilts to the families of late patients, volunteers would sell them at the prison’s rodeo for funding. “Doing my work made me realize that I have something to offer, that my greatest asset is myself,” Tyler says of revisiting quilting after his release. Also on display is a vitrine of those sourced photographs alongside memorabilia that was circulated in the fight for Tyler’s freedom. “We Are the Willing” will be on view from July 8 through Sept. 6, lscgallery.com.

Living in Costa Rica is helping save money to eventually start his own health and wellness business. I took a solo trip to Costa Rica to surf and enjoy the beach. However, in Costa Rica everything is grown locally and there are no chemicals like glyphosate in our food. We settled in Mal Pais, Costa Rica. By living in Costa Rica I've gained a sense of opportunism that I lacked in the US.

Tiny Japanese trucks that cost as little as $5,000 are winning over some Americans. It's not just tiny homes taking America by storm – now tiny trucks made in Japan are becoming increasingly popular too. The tiny trucks are a common sight on Japanese roads, but they've also won over some Americans wanting a versatile, compact – and cheap – vehicle. The cheapest Kei truck sold by Japan Car Direct is about $5,000, with shipping costs accounting for much of that sum. Japan Car Direct and its competitors will walk customers through the import process, which requires several forms to be completed.

The surf scene is dominated by locals, many of whom surf on old boards donated or passed down from older surfers. But Diouf, who is also a surfing instructor, aims to change that by increasing the availability of locally made boards. Although he also repairs boards, making them is now his focus. "Board making really needs to pick up," said surfer Aita Diop, who competes with a board made by Diouf. "Tomorrow, I hope we will see Sunugal surfboards all over the world."
